Reflection seismology

The quality of the geoseismic data is of great importance for accurate mapping of the subsurface.
The oil industry is the biggest buyer of seismology because seismology is a good tool to search for oil and gas. Seismic reflection is a geophysical method that uses the principles of seismology to estimate the earth’s subsurface from reflected seismic waves.

Quality
The quality of geoseismic data is of great importance for accurate mapping of the subsurface, and small disturbances can cause inaccurate readings. The problem with growth of biofilm, microorganisms, algae, crustaceans (barnacles), etc. occurs particularly in warm waters. This makes the streamers less hydrodynamic and leads to reduced data quality, increased fuel consumption and increased emission of harmful gases.
The UWCA programme
NanoConcept’s UWCA (Under Water Cable Anti-microbial) programme inhibits biofilm formation and growth of microorganisms and minimizes the possibility of crustaceans and other aquatic organisms attaching themselves. UWCA also contains components that repel them directly. The nanochemical seal forms a thin film (about 30 nanometres thick) that makes the streamers hydrophobic. The hydrophobic film reduces the friction between the streamers and the water, which results in less noise from the hydrophones and less toil for the streamers.
Implementation
UWCA is implemented on the streamers in the maintenance period, before deployment or at the manufacturer. A single system has the capacity to treat approx. 5,000 m streamer per hour at optimum conditions. NanoConcept takes care of the entire process.
